Antibiotic resistance is now a major issue confronting healthcare providers and their patients. Changing antibiotic resistance patterns, rising antibiotic costs and the introduction of new antibiotics have made selecting optimal antibiotic regimens more difficult now than ever before. The need for antimicrobial guidelines and prevention of antimicrobial resistance cannot be overemphasized. The need for such universal guidelines has been felt by all practicing pediatricians at all times during prescriptions. These guidelines are based on current literature reviews, including national guidelines and consensus statements. The pattern of microorganism sensitivity found which may also help in decision on prescription of drugs for similar organisms where extended sensitivity testing is not available.
